About Dr Gary Franks
Our principal GP, Dr Gary Franks, is a family man with three children and seven grandchildren. For 40 years, Dr Franks has worked in general practice, establishing his own clinic here at Shire Family Medical in 2015.
Gary enjoys the wide variety of work that comes with general practice, with a special interest in men’s health, skin cancer checks and management, minor surgery, chronic medical conditions, travel medicine and vaccinations, mental health, and antibiotic stewardship.

GP Supervisor & Medical Educator
Dr Franks is a qualified GP supervisor and contributes to the training of GP registrars and medical students. His involvement in medical education reflects his commitment to the quality and continuity of general practice in the Sutherland Shire community.
Supervision accreditation. GP supervisors are accredited by RACGP and/or ACRRM and play a key role in shaping the next generation of Australian GPs.
Interests & Community
Outside of medicine, Dr Franks is actively involved in his local community and participates in annual overseas mission trips through his church. He enjoys spending time with family, swimming, surfing, and photography.
