Our team of GPs, nurses and support staff share one goal: providing patient-centred care in line with best-practice standards, for individuals and families at every stage of life.
Our Story
Established in 2015 by our founding principal GP, Dr Gary Franks, Shire Family Medical was built on the values of integrity, compassion and community. Since then, we’ve grown to include a team of registered GPs, nurses and support staff who share a common goal: providing patient-centred care in line with best-practice standards.
We’re proud to support individuals, families and the broader Sutherland community with a wide range of general practice services — from children’s health and preventative screening to mental health, skin cancer checks, vaccinations and chronic disease management.
Locally Owned
Shire Family Medical is owned and operated by long-time Sutherland Shire residents: former nurse manager Rebel Traynor and her husband, emergency doctor Dr Louis Traynor.
Their shared commitment to patient-centred care and local values ensures the practice remains grounded, welcoming and responsive to the needs of the community.
Inclusive Care
Our team welcomes people of all cultural backgrounds, identities and abilities. We strive to provide culturally safe care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, and are committed to inclusive, respectful healthcare for everyone.
We acknowledge the Dharawal people — particularly the Gweagal and Norongeragal clans — as the Traditional Custodians of the Sutherland area, and extend our respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
Accreditation
Shire Family Medical is proudly accredited by the Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited (AGPAL) — independent recognition that our practice meets the standards set by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).
This process involves regular, thorough assessments of our systems, policies and patient care practices to ensure we continue to provide safe healthcare in line with RACGP standards. For our patients, AGPAL accreditation demonstrates our commitment to:
