About this Service
Shire Family Medical offers confidential, evidence-based care for men of all ages. Our GPs take a practical, non-judgmental approach, whether you are coming in for a routine check-up, an issue you have been putting off, or specific health concerns.
Many conditions common in men, including high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, and prostate conditions, can develop without obvious symptoms. Regular health reviews help identify these issues early, when they are often easier to manage.
Not sure what to book? A standard GP appointment is a good starting point for any men’s health concern. If a more detailed review is needed, your GP can arrange the appropriate appointment type, referrals, or investigations.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Many health conditions — such as high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, or early cardiovascular risk — can develop without obvious symptoms. Regular check-ups help identify these issues early, when they are often easier to manage. A good rule of thumb for most healthy adult men is a check-up every 1–2 years.
This depends on your individual risk factors. Discussions about prostate health often begin around age 50 — or earlier if there is a family history of prostate cancer. Your GP can advise when prostate health discussions or PSA testing may be appropriate based on your age, symptoms, and family history.
Yes. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and our GPs take a practical, non-judgmental approach. Your GP can provide support, offer coping strategies, and — if appropriate — develop a Mental Health Treatment Plan for access to Medicare-subsidised psychology sessions.
This depends on your age and health history, but may include blood pressure monitoring, cholesterol testing, blood glucose levels, discussion of prostate health, skin checks, and bowel cancer screening from age 50. Your GP will recommend what is appropriate for your individual situation.
Yes. Skin checks can be done during a standard appointment or booked as a dedicated skin assessment. We also offer cryotherapy and minor procedures if required. Men aged 40 and over are at higher risk of skin cancer and regular checks are recommended.
Yes. Our GPs discuss sexual health concerns — including erectile function, STI screening, and related issues — in a confidential, respectful consultation. These are common and important health topics and patients are encouraged to raise them.
