GP Skin Cancer Checks Using Dermatoscopy

Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, with around 2 in 3 Australians diagnosed with some form of skin cancer during their lifetime.[1] At Shire Family Medical, our GPs offer comprehensive skin checks to assess skin changes and guide next steps where required.

Whether you’ve noticed a new spot, a change in an existing mole, or would like a routine skin review, we’re here to help. Our skin checks are conducted with care, using dermatoscopy (magnified skin examination) to assist assessment.

We also offer cryotherapy (freezing treatment), minor skin procedures, and referrals to dermatologists or surgeons where appropriate.

Common Reasons to Book a Skin Check

  • New or changing moles or spots
  • Skin that bleeds, crusts, or doesn’t heal
  • A personal or family history of skin cancer
  • Fair skin, history of sunburns, or regular sun exposure
  • Peace of mind before or after travel or summer months

Skin cancer can often be treated effectively when detected early. Regular skin checks can help detect changes earlier and support ongoing skin health.
